It is customary for a political party to conduct a sort of “autopsy” after losing a major election to assess where they went wrong and how they can do better in future races. Republicans did it after the 2012 presidential election in which Sen. Mitt Romney failed to unseat then-President Barack Obama. But Democrats, who are poised to lose big in the upcoming midterm elections, do not appear ready to go through such a process.
Instead, the left is already making excuses for their impending losses. The rhetoric coming from Democrats and their comrades in the activist media reveals a rather curious reality: They are not learning their lesson.
On What Will Democrats Blame Their Midterms Losses?
When Democrats lose control of the legislative branch – as it appears they will – voter suppression will undoubtedly be one of the boogeymen the left will use. In fact, it seems any time they lose an election, they use this as one of several explanations for the loss.
At first glance, it might not seem as if this would be a viable strategy considering near-record turnout at the polls in states like Georgia. Indeed, if that trend continues in other red states that passed election integrity laws after the 2020 presidential election, it will be hard to make the case that Jim Crow 2.0 suppressed black votes and cost Democrats their seats.
Nevertheless, Democrats are already trying to prime their supporters for the narrative. After reports of high turnout at the polls in Georgia, gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams addressed supporters, claiming, “it does not mean that voter suppression doesn’t exist.”
“We know that voter suppression is alive and well in Georgia, but we’re stronger, we’re faster, and we’re better than it,” she added.
But the real villain in this story will be none other than white suburban women, who supported President Joe Biden in the 2020 election but are now leaning towards the GOP. The Wall Street Journal conducted a poll showing that this demographic “favor[s] Republicans in congressional races by 15 percentage points.”
This is quite a shift, given that when WSJ conducted the same poll in August, Democrats led by 12 points among this group. It appears that less than a week before the midterms, the tide has shifted considerably.
If this trend holds, Democrats and members of the press will turn their wrath on these same white suburban women. On a recent airing of “The View,” co-host Sunny Hostin launched the first salvo. “White Republican suburban women are now going to vote Republican — It’s almost like roaches voting for Raid,” she said.

Progressives are going to smear these “roaches” as being complicit in the losses Democrats will sustain. The usual racist/sexist/homophobic tropes will abound as these crusaders for social justice attempt to blame their situation on bigotry.
Will They Ever Learn?
Despite the excuses coming from the left, the Democrats’ inevitable downfall will be of their own making. As it turns out, ignoring the migrant crisis, passing legislation that led to crushing inflation, and demonizing police amid surging crime rates wasn’t exactly the wisest move. Supporting the effort to push transgenderism among children didn’t help matters either.
But for now, it seems Democrats are intent on not learning from their mistakes. They better hope they can get it together in time for 2024.
