“We are excited to introduce RxPass, a new Prime membership benefit from Amazon Pharmacy that provides patients with affordable access to generic medications that treat more than 80 common health conditions for just $5 a month,” Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) wrote in a news release, unveiling its newest service.
“With RxPass, Prime members can get as many eligible medications as they need for one flat, low fee of $5 and have them conveniently delivered free to their door. It’s estimated that more than 150 million Americans take one or more of the medications available through the RxPass monthly subscription. RxPass is our latest effort to help patients save time, save money, and stay healthy. It’s available now to customers in most U.S. states. Amazon (AMZN) is still trying to figure out how to make inroads into the healthcare sector after shutting down Amazon Care (its in-house primary care service) last year. Other initiatives have included the $3.9B acquisition of One Medical (a membership-based primary care platform) and the introduction of Amazon Clinic (which provides virtual care for common ailments) in 2022, and the launch of Amazon Pharmacy in 2020 (following the purchase of prescription-by-mail company PillPack for $750M).
