Back in 2022 I used a PayPal Monthly Loan (~$878) for Disneyland tickets. I paid 5 of 6 payments on autopay, but the final ~$155 payment in Feb 2023 failed and I didn’t notice. The balance was later sold to Jefferson Capital Systems, with Unifin now handling it.
This just hit my credit as a collection. I called Unifin today and paid the full balance, but I’m uneasy about how it was handled:
– I asked for pay-for-delete in writing before paying.
– They said they could only provide a “zero-balance letter,” not a written deletion guarantee.
– They told me Jefferson Capital “handles the deletion request once payment is made,” and that it should be “expunged” in ~30 days.
– I paid anyway, but I still haven’t received the zero-balance letter or any written confirmation that a deletion request was submitted.
My goal is full deletion, not just “paid collection,” since I’ll be applying for apartments later this year.
I’m looking for advice on how to further navigate this.
