I’ve been helping my fiancé with marketing for his business (he’s self-employed) since that is my FT job. Given how much time I’ve invested, he wants to compensate me but says if it’s with cash, he wants to 1099. I live in a HCOL market with high taxes and feel like the heavily discounted rate I was planning to offer him will get whittled to dust once taxes are factored in. I’m wondering if instead, I ought to just have him take care of some shared expenses. Any opinions?
