Chevron (NYSE:CVX) has “reneged” on commitments made to Australia’s industrial tribunal, unions representing workers at the company’s two liquefied natural gas export sites said Thursday, threatening to resume strike action.
Workers called off strikes two weeks ago after unions and the company accepted proposals on pay and conditions proposed by Australia’s Fair Work Commission, but the Offshore Alliance of unions said Chevron (CVX) was not living up to its commitment.
If the two sides fail to reach a deal, the matter could go back to the FWC, which had been due to begin hearings on whether to intervene and end strikes when the parties reached their apparent agreement.
Recent strikes at Chevron’s (CVX) Gorgon and Wheatstone facilities, responsible for more than 5% of global LNG supply, roiled natural gas markets, although no LNG shipments were disrupted.
