Chetan Sharma sting operation: Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) chief selector Chetan Sharma, 57, was caught in a controversy on Tuesday as he allegedly revealed information on classified selection matters. Sharma in a string operation claimed that many players in Indian cricket take injections to pass the fitness test, adding that cricketers play smart to avoid doping.
He was heard saying that Indian players have their own doctors outside of cricket, who are always available for them.
Sharma, who was recently reinstated by the BCCI after being removed following India’s showing in the T20 World Cup in Australia, also revealed his internal discussions with head coach Rahul Dravid and Virat Kohli during the sting conducted by Zee News.
“If they are fit for only 85 per cent… they tell us to let them play but medical science doesn`t clear them, this problem comes…the player wants to play, the player never refuses,” he told Zee News.
“But Like Bumrah, he was not even able to bow down then what will he do.. One or two such major injuries happen. Otherwise even at 80%, these people…they are such scoundrels, they will silently go to the corner and take an injection and say that they are fit,” he added.

“Not a pain killer? They take injections and no one gets to know about it. The player will have to take a prescription for a pain killer? And he will get caught in anti-doping? they know directly which injection won`t come in anti-doping. They are big superstars. They will make one phone call. There are a thousand doctors, they will come at night and give them an injection,” he added.
The matter is currently being investigated by BCCI, a senior BCCI official told PTI. “It will be (BCCI secretary) Jay’s (Shah) call as to what will be Chetan’s future. The question is whether T20 skipper Hardik Pandya or ODI and Test captain Rohit Sharma would like to sit with Chetan in a selection meeting knowing that he has let out internal discussions,” the official said.
