stock climbed in premarket trading Friday after the oil and gas giant delivered a big earnings beat in the third quarter.

(ticker: CVX) reported adjusted earnings of $10.8 billion, or $5.56 a share, a 90% increase on the year-ago period but below the $11.4 billion it reported in the second quarter. Operating revenue was $66.6 billion.
