Banks typically have a Bill Pay feature where you can add a payee to receive a bill payment (landlord, utility, etc.). I’ve never used this, always opting to pay directly on the company’s website.

My water company imposes a $1 convenience fee to pay via e-check using their payment portal. I’m going to try to use my bank’s bill pay to get around the convenience fee.

Aside from avoiding convenience fees, I’m trying to understand the appeal of bill pay. Why wouldn’t you pay your credit card company, mobile carrier, etc. directly on their websites? Why introduce another possible point of error?
