Human Rights Day 2022: Human Rights day is celebrated on December 10 every year across the globe. This day is observed to honour the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) adopted by the United Nations General Assembly.

The day was established in the year 1948 and since then it serves to create awareness and mobilize political will to promote respect for rights and freedoms.

“The UDHR is a milestone document, which proclaims the inalienable rights that everyone is entitled to as a human being – regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. Available in more than 500 languages, it is the most translated document in the world,” the United Nation said.

The 2022 theme of Human Rights Day is dignity, freedom, and justice for all. Both the Declaration and WHO’s Constitution assert that health is a fundamental human right for all people.

It should be noted that next year the world will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) on 10 December 2023.
