Value vs Growth 2022 – 2023

Heading into 2023, Michael Batnick predicted that Value stocks would continue their outperformance over Growth stocks, in large part because he believed that divergence between large-cap value stocks still had room to run to catch up to large-cap growth after small-cap value stocks created such a big gap between small cap growth heading into 2023.

Batnick joked he was right on his prediction “for a total of three days,” as growth surged 38.05% in 2023 compared to value’s 6.37% performance.

Despite the big performance from growth in 2023, Michael and Ben’s premise that you can’t tell the story of 2023 without looking at 2022 shows that growth and value are within spitting distance of each other over a two-year period.
