Chennai will lastly get its second airport, situated at Parandur, after the Centre gave its clearance for the development of the venture, sources advised businessline.

“We’re hopeful that in-principle approval for this greenfield airport venture will usher in enhanced connectivity and spur additional financial exercise within the area,” sources mentioned.

Of those, 12 greenfield airports, together with Durgapur, Shirdi, Kannur, Pakyong, Kalaburagi, Orvakal (Kurnool), Sindhudurg, Kushinagar, Itanagar, Mopa, and Shivamogga, have been operationalised. 

At present, India has round 159 operational airports, together with each brownfield and greenfield amenities.
