Good morning, Paul!

Forbes has just completed its fourth survey of the best employers in our country. And as it relates to the best in the state of Michigan, we’ve got highlights for you. Now to conduct the research, Forbes evaluated approximately 1,400 companies across the U.S. by partnering with market research firm Statista and surveyed 70,000 Americans working for businesses with at least 500 employees to get the results.

Now, Michigan has 75 ranked companies on the list. Detroit-based utility company DTE Energy comes in at number 10, Delta Air Lines ranks number eight of the best companies to work for in the state of Michigan. Number three, it’s the automotive supplier Flex-in-Gate. Number two on the list: Blue Cross Blue Shield. And number one, according to Forbes, it’s the University of Michigan, headquartered in Ann Arbor with nearly 30,000 employees.

So what makes for a great place to work? As we all know, the job markets are experiencing dramatic change as worker expectations continue to morph in this post-pandemic era.

Forbes puts it like this: “While many of the hallmarks of a top employer are universal, such as fair pay, safe working conditions and an inclusive culture, other priorities have emerged in recent years. The COVID-19 pandemic and heightened awareness of racial injustice have shifted expectations of employers. For that reason, the survey included more questions about remote work benefits, the wage gap for women and initiatives around diversity, equity and inclusion.”

Lots to learn here, Paul. One thing that never changes is your likelihood of success, whether in a large corporation or a small business, is entirely dependent on the quality of the team you bring to bear to make the business go. So making sure you’re an employer that people want to work for becomes more critical than ever in these highly challenging times.
